The Fastball Tournament Is This Weekend. The Line of Credit Is Still There Monday.

June 09, 20262 min read

The team made the weekend tournament. Two hours away, two nights in a hotel, gas, food, the registration you already paid back in the spring. You are happy for your kid. You would not trade a second of it. And somewhere in the back of your head, you are already doing the math on where it all lands. The line of credit. Again.

We get it. We are at the same diamonds, in the same lawn chairs, watching the same first pitch. We have done that same quiet math in the truck on the drive home, with the kids asleep in the back seat.

Here is the part most families never get told. The problem is almost never the spending. It is where the debt is sitting. And moving it can put $640 a month back in your pocket. This month. Not next year.

Here is what that looks like

A fastball family came to me this spring. Two kids, both playing, tournaments booked clear through August. They had about $32,000 spread across two credit cards and a line of credit. The average rate was right around 20 percent. Their minimum payments came to roughly $880 a month, and almost all of it was interest.

They were not paying the debt down. They were renting it.

We refinanced and rolled that $32,000 into the mortgage at a little over 4 percent.

Their mortgage payment went up by about $190 a month. Their total monthly outflow dropped by $640.

That is $640 a month back in the family budget. The tournament weekend covered. The hotel booked without flinching. Mom and Dad not lying awake on a Sunday night running numbers.

What I told them next

Coaching my own kids was the best time of my life. I never wanted to say no to a season, and we never want you to have to say no to your kids and their sports either. That is not the problem. You are not doing it wrong. The debt was just in the wrong place. We put it in the right place.

And once the debt is sitting where it should, the work is not finished. It is just starting. That is when I introduce you to my partners. The people who help families like ours keep growing what we have built and protect it for the kids one day. The mortgage is the door. Everything inside it is the relationship.

I am not here for one transaction. I am here for the next 30 years. For the season after this one, and the one after that, and the day your kid is coaching their own.

If the tournament is this weekend and the line of credit is what is keeping you up, that is not a character flaw. It is a signal. Five minutes
