Simcoe Giants 13U Battle to Silver at OBA Championships

The Simcoe Giants 13U Tier 1 squad showcased resilience, teamwork, and plenty of offense this past weekend, powering their way to the OBA finals and earning a silver medal finish. Over six games, the Giants delivered statement wins, dramatic comebacks, and contributions up and down the roster, capping off a proud run for the team and their supporters.

Tournament Journey

The weekend began with a tough opener against a strong Mansfield Cubs side, where Simcoe dropped a 13–1 decision despite solid defensive efforts from Kane Staats and Emerson Meade in the infield and some heads-up plays from Jack Black at first base. While the scoreboard didn’t favor the Giants, it set the stage for their bounce-back.

Bounce back they did. In Game 2, Simcoe rolled to a 15–0 win over the Jr. Baysox behind dominant pitching from Jack Black and a well-rounded offensive attack. Emerson Meade sparked the offense with a triple, while Spenser Gilbert provided the long ball with a home run. Timely hits from Kane Staats, Emerson Beck, and Jack Lynch helped put the game out of reach early.

Game 3 turned into an instant classic as the Giants outlasted the Niagara Falls Falcons in a wild 19–18 slugfest. The Giants’ bats exploded in the early innings with a home run from Emerson Meade, big doubles from Lane Graham, and key RBI singles from Kane Staats and Jack Black. When the game tightened late, Emerson Beck came in on the mound and recorded clutch strikeouts to help Simcoe secure the thrilling one-run victory.

In their fourth game, the Giants carried their momentum into a 14–4 win over the Lasalle Titans. Emerson Beck was sharp on the mound with multiple strikeouts, while the offense came alive again with Graham blasting a home run and Kai Kapogianis and Jack Lynch driving in runs with extra-base hits.

That set up a semifinal matchup with the Oakville A’s, where Simcoe played one of their most complete games of the tournament. Emerson Meade was outstanding at the plate and on the mound, driving in runs with a double while striking out batters with confidence. Spenser Gilbert and Ryken Thomson chipped in timely hits, and Lane Graham’s leadership behind the plate anchored the defense in an 8–4 win that punched their ticket to the finals.

Silver Medal Finish

In the championship against the Quinte Royals, the Giants jumped out early with RBI from Emerson Beck and steady swings from Kai Kapogianis and Emerson Graham. The Royals responded with some late offense, eventually pulling away for the win, but Simcoe battled to the final out and walked away with a well-deserved silver medal.

Team Effort

Beyond the box scores, the Giants’ success came from hustle and effort across the roster. Brody Zintel made key catches in the outfield, Carson

Hutchinson contributed with smart base running, and Jack Lynch’s steady glove was a difference-maker in the infield. Every player found a way to contribute during the six-game stretch.

The Giants’ silver medal run highlighted their resilience, ability to bounce back from adversity, and commitment to playing as a team. It was a proud weekend for players, coaches, and families alike.
